Body Protectors
We would always recommend a body protector be fitted or checked by an approved body protector fitter. The following tables give details of the measurements for some of the body protectors we stock; a correctly fitting body protector covers the rib cage and extends down the back to the base of your spine.

Chaps and gaiters
To measure for chaps and gaiters the height measurement is taken barefoot from the floor, up the back of the leg to under the knee while in a sitting position. Calf measurement is the widest part of the calf measured over breeches.

Gloves
To determine your glove size you will need a measuring tape. Place the beginning of the tape on your index finger knuckle and bring the tape across the other knuckles, continue moving the tape around the palm side of the hand until the tape touches the point where you started. The point where the tape meets (in inches) is your glove size.

Rugs
The best way to ensure your new rug fits is to measure an existing one that fits correctly. Lay your rug flat on the ground and measure from the front edge to the back as illustrated below:

Alternatively if you do not have an existing rug to measure you need to measure your horse from the centre of their chest, over the high point of the shoulder to the centre of the tail. Then subtract 4” for a turnout and 6” for a stable rug.

If you are still unsure as to what size rug you require the following table can be used as a rough guide:

Bits
A correctly fitting bit should have a fingers width on either side of the horse’s mouth. To ensure your new bit fits correctly measure the length of the mouthpiece from inside of the rings, as illustrated below:

Most bits are sold in inches, although some European bits (eg Sprenger bits) are sold in centimeters.
